Luiza Borac

Winner of over 50 prizes and distinctions pianist Luiza Borac has been described as “most poetic artist” (Süddeutsche Zeitung), an “ever resourceful and imaginative pianist” (Gramophone) and a “formidable interpreter” (San Francisco Chronicle). She has won top prizes at the Edvard Grieg International Piano Competition – First Prize, Prix d’Oslo, Special Prize for Grieg’s lyrical pieces and the Audience Prize – as well as in Mendelssohn (Berlin Piano), Enescu (Bucharest), Gina Bachauer (Salt Lake City), Viotti (Valsesia) competitions.
She has performed in prestigious concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall (New York), Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles), Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Kölner Philharmonie and Barbican Centre London, with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra, and WDR Köln among others.
The first pianist ever to have recorded the complete piano music of the three Romanian composers George Enescu, Dinu Lipatti and Constantin Silvestri, Luiza Borac has been described as “the greatest living exponent of her compatriots’ endlessly revelatory piano music”. As a promoter of female artists, she dedicated unique and highly acclaimed European tours to Alice Herz-Sommer (2016) and Clara Schumann (2019).
In Romania, she was taught by Irina Șațchi, Lavinia Coman and Gabriel Amiraș. A young artist in residence of the London Symphony Orchestra, Luiza Borac has been mentored by Radu Lupu, Murray Perahia, Jan Ekier, Leon Fleisher, Dmitri Bashkirov, William Grant Naboré and Fou Ts’ong. Luiza Borac graduated from the Bucharest and Hanover music universities with the highest distinctions and pursued masterclasses at the Julliard School in New York and International Piano Academy Lake Como, under artistic director Martha Argerich.
Luiza Borac is a Steinway artist and has been included on the Steinway Wall of Fame. She is the winner of the BBC Music Award and has been nominated in 2021 for both Opus Klassik and ICMA Awards, in the categories the Best Recording, the Best Soloist of the Year and the Best Assorted Programs.
