1. Should I record the preselection video in a studio or I can submit a non-professional recording?

Yes, an non-professional video recording may be submitted, as long as it respects the specifications written in Rules:
▪️ The video must be made specifically for the George Enescu International Competition 2024;
▪️ Duration: between 10 and 15 minutes;
▪️ Repertoire: one or more complete works from the competition repertoire, not exceeding the maximum duration allowed;
▪️ Good audio-visual quality (720p or higher), any post-production editing is prohibited;
▪️ No cuts are allowed between movements of the same work (e.g. between the movements of a sonata);
▪️ Where applicable, all works must include piano accompaniment. Orchestral accompaniment is prohibited;
▪️ At the beginning of the video recording, candidates must present themselves, speaking in English, stating their full name, nationality, George Enescu International Competition 2024, section (cello/viola/piano) and program chosen.

2. Is it possible to submit several works for the composition section?

Yes, you can submit as many works as you wish, but you must send each work through a separate registration form and you must pay the application fee for each of the works submitted. The scores should be sent in digital format, not handwritten. Also keep in mind that the scores must be anonymous.

3. What is the imposed solo instrument work in the second round repertoire?

The imposed work for the solo instrument in the second round will be a new work, specially composed for the Competition by Romanian contemporary composers. The scores will be made available for the competitors who pass the online preselection round.

4. Is a single movement considered a complete work?

The preselection video must contain one or more complete works from the Competition repertoire, but not exceeding the maximum duration of 15 minutes.

A single movement of a work is not considered a complete work, unless it has been specified in the Competition repertoire as a requirement.

For example: In the cello section repertoire, it is mentioned that only the first movement of the concerto is required, and thus is considered as a ”complete work”.

5. Can musicians from any country apply?

Yes, all musicians born after August 1st, 1989, are eligible to apply for the piano, violin, cello, composition sections or the conducting masterclass advanced music study.

Registration for the Masterclass in instrumental performance and advanced music study is open to all musicians born after 1 August 1999.

6. How can I submit my musical works?

The applicants must submit digital sheet music for the works they want to register into the Competition, not the scanned handwritten scores. Please use an app or a program like MuseScore, forScore, etc, to create your score and include the .pdf, .docx or .doc file (Max. file size: 8 MB) in your application form. If the file has more than 8MB, then include a downloadable link for Google Drive, oneDrive or Dropbox.

7. Can I edit distinct videos for the preselection video?

Yes, you can edit together a video for a certain piece with another video of a different piece that you wish to include in the preselection video. However, no cuts are allowed in the same video of the musical piece. Overall, the preselection video should not be longer than 15 minutes, including the artist presentation clip.

9. Is it possible to use PayPal to pay my participation fee?

We exclusively process participation fees for the Competition through bank transfers. For more information, please refer to the details available in the regulations.

10. How can I apply for the well-being sessions?

The wellbeing sessions are exclusively available to musicians who pass the online preselection round and proceed to the live rounds, in Bucharest.

11. Can I apply for this year’s Enescu Competition if I participated in the past?

Past Enescu Competition winners of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes cannot register or take part in future editions.

12. What are the instruments I can use in my registered compositions?

● Symphonic Music
Orchestral scores may not exceed the following orchestra size:

14 violins I, 12 violins II, 10 violas, 8 cellos, 6 doublebasses
3 flutes / piccolo/alto, 3 clarinets/bass clarinet, 3 oboes /English horn, 3 bassoons/ contrabassoon.
4 french horns, 3 trumpets, 3 trombones, 1 tuba
Timpani + 3 percussion groups
Harp, piano, celesta, glockenspiel

● Chamber Music
Works for a group of 2 to maximum 10 musicians, having at disposal the following:

1 flute / piccolo/alto | 1 oboe/English horn | 1 clarinet/bass clarinet | 1 bassoon/contrabassoon
1 french horn | 1 trumpet | 1 trombone | 1 Tuba
1 percussion | 1 piano
String quintet: 1 violin I, 1 violin II, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 doublebass.

13. Can I apply for the Symphonic and the Chamber Music categories?

Yes. Each work requires a separate application to be submitted.
