Meehae Ryo

Cellist Meehae Ryo’s breathtaking technical virtuosity and captivating musicality puts her as the most recognized cellist in the Republic of Korea. She has been praised for her top-notch performances, and some of her highlights include those with legendary pianist Martha Argerich and virtuoso violinist Shlomo Mintz.
At the young age of six, Meehae Ryo had her first cello lesson. She has won all national competitions, stirring her ambition to study abroad in order to grow her musical abilities in the best music schools. She went to Julliard School at the age of 16, then completed her studies with DMA degree at the University of Michigan, preparing to become a true musician.
She has performed with numerous orchestras, such as the Berliner Philharmonic, Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Roma Symphony Orchestra, Malta Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, Korean National Symphony Orchestra, Bucheon Philharmonic, Daegu Symphony Orchestra, Wonju Philharmonic, Jeju Prime Philharmonic, and more. With them, she played in some of the most well-known concert halls, including Musikverein, Carnegie Hall, Berlin Philharmonic Hall, Liszt Hall, Herkulessaal, Dvořák Hall, Sala Verdi, Smetana Hall and Auditorium della Conciliazione.
In 2013, she released her album with Deutsche Grammophon, where she recorded Saint-Saëns and Elgar cello concertos. Previously, she has also released two albums with Sony Entertainment in which she recorded with the Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimír Válek, and with Cosmopolitan Trio as a member.
She did not limit herself as a concert artist, but also participated in several international competitions as a jury member. Currently, Meehae Ryo is living in Vienna, where she is actively performing over 30 concerts a year as a concert cellist and is also artistic director of IMK.
