Valentin Răduțiu

Praised by the Süddeutsche Zeitung for his „glowing, distinctive and exciting masculine tone” as „one of the great cello-talents of our time”, cellist Valentin Radutiu was born in Munich and received his first cello lessons from his father at the age of six. He later studied in Salzburg, Vienna and Berlin with Clemens Hagen, Heinrich Schiff und David Geringas.
German cellist of Romanian origin is laureate of the 2012 George Enescu International Competition and has performed as a soloist with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken, MDR Leipzig and SWR Stuttgart Symphony Orchestras, Münchener Kammerorchester, Camerata Salzburg, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, George Enescu Philharmonic and Romanian Radio National Orchestra, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, Opéra de Marseille, Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn, Prague Philharmonia, Stuttgarter Kammerorchester, the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and the World Youth Symphony Orchestra. He has appeared at the Berlin Philharmonie and Konzerthaus, Munich’s Prinzregententheater, Gasteig and Herkulessaal, Philharmonic Hall Riga, Konserthuset Stockholm, Bucharest Athenaeum, Palais des Beaux-Arts Brussels, Hong Kong City Hall, and has partnered with conductors such as Lawrence Foster, Ruben Gazarian, Gustavo Gimeno, Pablo González, Stanisław Kochanowski, Cristian Măcelaru, Jérémie Rhorer, Leoš Svárovský, Robin Ticciati and Thomas Zehetmair.
His chamber music partners include the Hagen-Quartett, Evgeni Bozhanov, Ib Hausmann, Boris Brovtsyn, Diana Ketler, Alissa Margulis, Igor Ozim, Alina Pogostkina, Răzvan Popovici, Per Rundberg, Alexander Sitkovetsky, Rolando Villazón, Schumann Quartet and the 12 cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic.
In addition to his debut CD in 2011, he also recorded an album with French works by Lalo, Ravel and Magnard, and the 2014 release of the complete works for cello and piano by George Enescu with Per Rundberg was praised by critics as a benchmark recording (Hänssler Classic). His intensive collaboration with the composer and conductor Peter Ruzicka is documented by the first recording of Ruzicka’s Cello Concerto and cello chamber music. Other recordings include: Haydn, Mozard/Cassado, C.P.E. Bach with Münchener Kammerorchester (2016), Haydn, J. Ch. Bach, Janson with Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn (2019).
Since 2019, he holds the position of principal cellist of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, and in 2021 he has been appointed cello professor at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden. Valentin Radutiu plays on a cello made by Francesco Ruggieri in 1686.
