Liviu Prunaru

Liviu Prunaru began studying the violin at the age of six in his hometown, Craiova. He attended the Ciprian Porumbescu Conservatory in Bucharest, in the class of Cornelia Bronzetti, and the Menuhin Academy in Gstaad (Switzerland), where he studied with Alberto Lysy and Yehudi Menuhin. He then completed his studies at the Juilliard School in New York with Dorothy DeLay, being one of his last assistants. He has also attended masterclasses with Igor Oistrakh, Ruggiero Ricci, Nikita Magaloff, Jean-Pierre Rampal, Peter-Lukas Graf, Pierre Amoyal and Itzhak Perlman. After winning First Prizes at the Juilliard Mendelssohn Concerto and Nakamichi Wieniawski Violin Concerto competitions, he makes his New York debut with the Juilliard Orchestra.
His record is impressive, ranging from prizes and distinctions at prestigious competitions around the world (gold medals at the international competitions Kocian in the Czech Republic, Dong-A in South Korea, Rodolfo Lipizer in Italy, R. Molinari in Switzerland, silver medals at the international competitions Indianapolis in the USA and Queen Elisabeth in Belgium), to collaborations as soloist with the best orchestras worldwide (Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Belgian National Orchestra, Westdeutsche Sinfonia, Athens Philharmonic, Bari Symphony Orchestra, National Radio Orchestra and George Enescu Philharmonic in Bucharest, Orchestra Mayo Chamber in Buenos Aires, Indianapolis Chamber Orchestra and the Meridian, Mississippi, Juilliard Symphony Orchestras, among others) and concerts under the batons of great conductors such as Yehudi Menuhin, Fabio Luisi, Andris Nelsons, Yuri Simonov, Andrew Litton, Peter Braschkat, Georges Octors, Cristian Mandeal, Lukas Vis, Horia Andreescu, Mario Benzecry, Park Eun Seong.
In 2006 he became concertmaster of the famous Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. In 2010-2012 he was director of the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland, and from 2014 to 2022 he was professor at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
